In the heart of the captivating rolling hills, lived a young shepherd. His existence was mostly unadulterated, and unsophisticated. His only responsibility was to look after his flock of ewes.
Their low murmuring and the rustling of the breezes among the single tree on the hilltop were his main co-dwellers. Day after day, guarding his charges inculcated in him a sense of quiet fulfillment.
But, there were at times moments of solitude, when the shepherd boy would long for fellowship. On one such day out of sheer monotony, the shepherd boy devised a mischievous plot.
Stories of predators preying on sheep had been around for a while in the town. So, the boy chose to used this fear and played a joke on the inhabitants.
One morning he dashed into the village screaming “Wolf! There is a wolf that has taken my sheep!” The scared villagers ran up the hills for rescue but saw no beast.

The tale of this shepherd boy has been handed down generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the value of honesty, the consequences of lying and the risks of false alarms. Moreover, it highlights how trust once violated, is hard to regain. It's a story as relevant today as it was anciently.
